Lead a development team to solve technical problems with innovative solutions.

The Technical Director reports to the CTO and delivers product vision and technical leadership to our clients on an ongoing and project basis. They direct and coordinate the day-to-day agency development efforts on behalf of the client’s product and/or service on assigned accounts. They actively and directly manage more junior development staff. This is a Full-time, Exempt, Salaried position located onsite in Portland, Oregon.

Skills

  • Uses a balance of business and consumer insights to identify technical solutions
  • Has deep competency in at least two areas of technical focus: such as mobile development, full-stack/backend, web frontend frameworks, firmware, or hardware design
  • Has broad understanding of multiple areas of software and/or hardware design: such as mobile development, full-stack/backend, web frontend frameworks, firmware, or hardware design
  • Understands the nuances of brand, strategy and design thinking
  • Is comfortable leading multidisciplinary development teams with a diversity of skills
  • Shows ability to balance functional and company needs. Wears two hats simultaneously
  • Direct manager for staff, responsible for annual review and development

Requirements:

  • 7+ years experience working as a developer or engineer, at least 2 of them directly managing technical teams (of any size)
  • Smart, strategic and empathetic approach to creating products
  • Confidence when presenting technical considerations with clients and internal team (both written and verbal)
  • Confidence when presenting the development work of others
  • Passion for leading and facilitating collaboration within multidisciplinary teams
  • Willingness to facilitate client brainstorms
  • Strong persuasive communication skills
  • Willingness to pitch in on work as needed
  • Commitment to personal growth and a willingness to adapt to new flavors of technical challenges
  • Proven experience in interactive/mobile/web design or platform engineering and development
  • Familiarity with web and native technologies and how they impact design
  • Capability to work on simultaneous projects and meet tight deadlines
  • Bachelor’s Degree plus experience, or Master’s degree in a technical discipline (e.g. CS, CE, EE), or equivalent education preferred

This is a Full-time, Exempt, Salaried position located onsite in Portland, Oregon.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, write, and test code for assigned projects.
  • Communicate with team members to understand project requirements.

  • Identify areas for process improvement and suggest opportunities for efficiency improvements.
  • Adhere to code standards and development process.
  • Produce output that is of the level of quality demanded by products.
  • Maintain a positive attitude toward negotiation of technology implementation differences.

Skills and Requirements: First and foremost you should be prepared to learn what you don’t know, since we’re always tackling new problems. Below, we list out some languages, technologies, and platforms that are already part of our domain, so please let us know where you stand with these, and feel free to let us know what else you’re in to because, well, you’re a person.

  • Ideally 3+ years in Android and mobile development with a mastery of Android SDK
  • Experience working with RESTful APIs
  • Familiarity with the Android Framework (App Lifecycle, Async operations, push, etc.)
  • Experience with Git
  • Android Studio and gradle

  • OpenGL
  • AR Core
  • Python

Training: Ideal candidate has a 4 year CS or Engineering degree and 4 to 7 years of coding experience but passion and ability matter far more than degrees and diplomas.

At Uncorked Studios, we view production as an enlightened trade that leads through service, exists to create forward-moving energy and options, provide focus and priority, and keep a conscience on the holistic balance of schedule, scope, and resources. The production partner, at any level, is the glue that collects all the information necessary to make the most educated recommendations for moving the product forward. In doing such, they act as an advocate for the product, UCS business/production team, UCS design/tech teams, and client equally with limited bias - so as to generate the best work possible.

A Producer at Uncorked is a leader and mentor within the production team. A Producer is expected to not only deftly perform the duties of a Producer but also join cross-discipline leadership in sighting opportunities for development/growth of a significant partnership between the studio and our partner brands.

As such, a Producer will often be called on to provide leadership for other producers, willing to teach and guide team members, and bring their past (4+ yrs) experience to the company at large. A Producer has domain knowledge of creative and technical areas to such an extent, they are trusted to represent those disciplines by their internal partners.

The Senior Producer initiates, maintains and manages the client’s projects with the studio on an ongoing and project basis. They direct and coordinate the day-to-day studio efforts on assigned accounts. In this role, the Senior Producer ensures that the studio provides:

  • Guidance through uncertainty, helping to direct decisions and direction of products, projects, team and relationships.
  • Sound and responsible project management and planning.
  • Proper and innovative execution of work in all areas on schedule.
  • A consistently superior creative product.
  • A technically sound delivery.
  • Value for our clients, and efficiency for the organization

In addition to the above, Producer responsibilities at Uncorked Studios fall into the following categories:

1. Product Execution Planning

  • Creates project scope documentation, budgets, work plans, and realistic schedules for project needs with input from the Head of Production, Executive Producers, Executive Managing Director (EMD), and/or other executives as necessary.
  • Coordinates contractual needs with the Head of Production, EMD, and/or COO.
  • Manages internal and external needs and clearly communicates expectations in a timely fashion.
  • Partners with cross-discipline leads to monitor progress of projects through major gateways, and identify requests that are out of scope, initiating additional estimates and approvals as needed.
  • Engages with technical and design teams to help create solutions and propose paths for execution through a mix of technical and strategic acumen.
  • Collaboration with, or performance as a member of, Product Partnership teams, to ensure product strategy and product vision are held through the length of projects and all decision-making

2. Client Management

  • Functions as a primary/secondary source of communication with the client (depending on Product Partner allocation on specific projects)
  • Identifies all stakeholders for the project and product - planning for how those relationships can best be managed, and how to foster a human, empathetic connection with each party.
  • Partners with cross-discipline leads to educate clients and manage their needs and expectations.
  • Partners with cross-discipline leads to communicate internal goals in a way that aligns with client goals.
  • Accumulates all information in order to overcome challenges - acting as advocate for the product, the teams, and the client equally so as to resolve all conflict and land with the product in the best possible place considering affecting factors,

3. Team Coordination

  • Provides oversight on a project-by-project basis and monitors scope against a variety of factors.
  • Maintains updated budget status documents on assigned projects and communicates status of each project to senior management and clients to ensure that projects remain on track and run smoothly.
  • Uses most appropriate channels or studio tools for communications, so that all team members and clients are kept in the loop on project needs and status.
  • Drives projects to completion, satisfying internal creative and technical goals, while keeping the team excited and motivated.
  • Acts as a leader on the team, providing guidance and mentorship, in conjunction with and at the direction of the Head of Production and EMD, on process and skills development
  • Conveys client and project information to internal leadership, managing up and escalating where appropriate, combining reasoned responses and proactive solutions with collaboration and mutual problem solving.

4. Production Management

  • Manages assigned projects, involved with client projects from start to finish, ensuring successful project completion against deadlines, budgets, and creative expectations.
  • Provides and maintains projects status - liaising with development teams, designers and commercial staff to provide accurate updates of project statuses.
  • Advocates for product quality assurance - testing and review of output, reviewing outputted deliverables against scope
  • Asset Management, sourcing through final delivery.
  • Initiates and leads all appropriate project meetings.
  • Collaborates with technical and design teams to unblock issues, generate paths forward, and communicate risks and benefits of proposals both internally and externally.

5. Financial & Administrative

  • Monitor all internal and external costs for assigned projects.
  • Creates and maintains all project backup, status reports, PO’s, estimates, schedules, change orders, technical and production specs, and any other associated backup.
  • Manages external contractors on assigned projects - create purchase orders, monitor actual vs. budgeted costs.
  • Coordinates with Head of Production, EMD, and/or COO on contracts such as external contractor agreements, Statements of Work, and Change Orders.
  • Manages the production of client presentations and materials.
  • Manages studio internal projects and assist in preparing materials for creative presentations and meetings.
  • Works with Finance Manager to ensure proper billing, invoicing, and revenue recognition.
  • Reviews WIPs and final billing reports, reports any discrepancies to senior leadership.
  • Strong business and personal ethics.
  • Identifies areas of value in client organization, and flags with senior leadership as appropriate

Qualifications

  • 4+ years producer or project management experience in development, interactive advertising, software, digital marketing or related industry
  • Experience on digital and creative projects
  • Experience with project management tools such as JIRA, Basecamp and Trello
  • Assertive conflict-resolution and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and Google Drive applications
  • Clear and concise communication in both written and verbal form
  • Ability to be diplomatic or firm when necessary in order to drive business forward or obtain results
  • Highly detail oriented and able to work autonomously
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and tight deadlines with confidence and ease
  • Ability to prioritize and organize workload across multiple groups
